Broward Transitional Center

Broward Transitional Center is an ICE civil immigration detention facility located in Pompano Beach, Florida. It houses adult men and women who are held exclusively for civil immigration matters—not criminal sentences—while their removal proceedings, custody reviews, appeals, or other immigration cases are pending. Operated by The GEO Group under contract with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), the facility has a capacity of approximately 700 detainees. For families and attorneys traveling to the facility, the nearest major airport is Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport (FLL), with Miami International Airport (MIA) serving as another convenient option.

 

  • Miami Field Office

    The ICE Field Office manages immigration detention and enforcement matters in its jurisdiction. It oversees custody decisions, detention transfers, and certain discretionary releases from ICE custody.

  • Miami Krome (Detained) Immigration Court

    Immigration Judges oversee removal proceedings, decide immigration cases, and determine eligibility for relief from removal. They also conduct bond hearings for eligible individuals in ICE custody.

  • U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida (Fort Lauderdale Division)

    Unlike the Immigration Court, the Federal District Court reviews whether the federal government has acted lawfully. It may hear habeas corpus petitions and other federal claims

  • U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

    Circuit Court reviews appeals from decisions made by the Federal District Court.

  • Geo Group

    The GEO Group is a private corrections and detention services company that operates the Broward Transitional Center under contract with ICE. While GEO manages the facility's daily operations, ICE retains exclusive authority over immigration detention, custody, release, and removal decisions.

  • Attorneys may meet with detainees in confidential consultation rooms during designated legal visitation hours, either in person or by secure video teleconference (VTC/Zoom). Scheduled legal visits receive priority, although walk-in visits are also permitted. Family and friends are generally limited to one 45-minute visit during the detainee's assigned weekend visitation period.
